On November 23rd the Michelin Guide revealed the awarded restaurants of its 2017 Spain & Portugal edition. Chef Sergi Arola was distinguished with one Michelin star for his restaurant LAB in Sintra (Portugal).
Masía Mas Marroch, the event space of the renowned Roca brothers from Girona, set the scene for the longest-awaited gastronomic gala of the year: the presentation of the Michelin Guide. In Spain, the famous French restaurant guide gave a total of 21 new stars; apart from one new three-star restaurant in Barcelona and five restaurants with double distinction, a total of 15 new restaurants where added to the group of establishments with one Michelin star.
In Portugal, the increment of Michelin awarded restaurants was exceptional in this edition: two new establishments achieved their second Michelin star and a total of seven joined the guide’s list of Portuguese one-Michelin-star restaurants. Among the new incorporations of the guide is also the “LAB by Sergi Arola”, located in the Penha Longa Resort in Sintra (Portugal), which was awarded one Michelin star. In this restaurant, chef Sergi Arola achieved a natural evolution of his presence in the hotel, offering an innovative cuisine full of personality and culinary emotions.
At Arola restaurant in Barcelona, chef Sergi Arola offers a culinary concept inspired by the flavors of the Mediterranean, which combines his passion for local traditions with a creative and modern style of cuisine. The latest proposal of the chef in his Barcelona-based restaurant is the “Sunday Vermouth & Tapas” tasting menu, dedicated to the local tradition of Vermouth tasting and Mediterranean tapas culture.
